Event Information
Race kits
All entries received before close of business Friday, 21 June 2013 can opt to have their race kits mailed to them. Postage will incur a $5 fee. Race kits can also be picked up free of charge at the Run Melbourne Expo, presented by Running Fit.
Those who enter after Friday, 21 June, 2013 will not be posted a race kit. Instead, collection of race kits will be available at the Run Melbourne Expo, presented by Running Fit (Thursday, 18 July - Saturday, 20 July) . We strongly recommend you collect your race kit at the Health & Fitness Expo to take advantage of the opportunity to talk to trainers, dieticians, athletes, other participants, and to benefit from the discounts and sales on offer.
Race kits include: IPICO timing tag, race number and participant instructions.
The Run Melbourne team will begin sending race kits from Monday, 3 June 2013.
Each entrant will receive their own individual race kit. If you entered a number of people at the same address then each person will be mailed their own race kit. Race kits may arrive on different days, even if you entered a group of participants at the same time.
Merchandise
Merchandise will be available for purchase at a later date. If you purchased merchandise, this will be mailed separately to the race kit.
Race numbers
All runners and walkers need to pin your event race number to the front of your top before arriving at the event. Event race numbers will be colour coded according to the event you are in.
- Brooks Half-marathon - Yellow race number
- 10km - Red race number
- 5km - Blue race number
- 3km Marvel Kids Run - Green race number
Timing tags
The Age Run Melbourne, presented by People's Choice, will be timed using the IPICO Sports timing tag system.
All entrants will receive a timing tag and two twist ties in their race kit. The timing tag should be attached to your shoelace with the twist ties provided, so that your time can be recorded.
Your time will not be recorded if you tie the tag anywhere else on your body or clothing
including wrist or ankle, it must be attached to your shoe. A tag that is improperly attached may fall off or fail to record your time. Please note that you are responsible for the timing tag until it has been returned to the event organiser. A lost or stolen tag is your responsibility.
Please notify the event organiser if you change the event you have entered.
Your results will be produced by net time. The timing tag will record your official time from when you cross the start line until you cross the finish line. However, trophies will be awarded to the first three males and females in each event based on gun time. So, if you feel you have a chance of placing, please run in the first wave.
You will be asked to return your timing tag once you have crossed the finish line.Timing tags not returned will incur a $50 replacement charge. If you are unable to participate on the day or accidentally keep the tag please ensure that you return the tag by Friday, 2 August, 2013 to:

Finishers medals
All participants who complete their event will be presented with the 2013 edition of the "icons of Melbourne" medal once they have crossed the finish line.

Aerobics
Will be held at the main stage at Federation Square at the following times:
- Brooks Half-marathon - 6:30am
- 10km - 8:45am
- 5km - 10:00am
Wave starts
Because of the large number of participants expected and to ensure your safety, all events will be started in waves. The waves will be determined by your expected finish time. You will assemble into these designated areas at the start line and we request that you stay in these waves. The times listed below refer to the expected time to complete the course.

*Each wave will be divided and sent off in smaller groups to alleviate course congestion.
Please note: Trophies and prize packs will be awarded to the first three males and females in each event based on gun time. So, if you feel you have a chance of placing, please run in the first group in the first wave.
Last year's placegetters ran the following times:
Half-marathon - males: 1:07 mins, females: 1:17 mins
10km run - males: 32 mins, females: 34 mins
5km run - males 15 mins, females: 17 mins
Split times
The timing system will record the following split times;
- Brooks Half-marathon - 5km, 10km, 10.549km (quarter marathon), 15km and 20km
- 10km run - 2.5km, 5km, 7.5km
Assembly area
Is located at Federation Square, Melbourne (Melway Ref: 2F H5). Please arrive at the assembly area at least 45 minutes before your event.
Start area
The Brooks half marathon, 10km run and 5km run/walk will start at the intersection of St Kilda Road and Linlithgow Avenue.
Finish area
Is located within Birrarung Marr, adjacent to Federation Square.
Getting there
Car parking
Car parking is extremely limited. It is strongly recommended that 10km and 5km participants use public transport to get to the event (half-marathon begins before public transport starts).
1) Arts Centre open 24hrs for a flat rate $14.
2) Southgate (access from City Road or Southgate Avenue) open 24hrs for a flat rate of $8.
3) Federation Square (access via Russell Street) from 8am for a flat rate of $12.
4) Secure Parking, Flinders Street (opposite Federation Square) open 24hrs for a maximum of $16.
5) Eureka (access via City Road) open 24hrs for a flat rate of $8.
Please adhere to parking restrictions if parking on the streets.
Public transport (10km and 5km events only)
Train - Disembark at Flinders Street Station and take the Swanston Street exit from station and turn right.
Tram - Disembark at corner Flinders Street and Swanston Street.

Bicycle parking will be available at the event.
Clothing storage
The storage of your clothing during the run/walk will be located on the car park roof (Russell Street extension), located between Federation Square and Birrarung Marr.
To minimise time in queues, we have provided a tear-off strip attached to your race number that can be looped around your back pack or attached to a plastic bag provided on race day.
Please do not place any valuables in the clothing bags. We cannot accept responsibility for valuables lost or stolen.
Toilets
Are clearly signed and located at River Terrace, the finish line and on the course.
Health recommendation/safety
• Ensure you are fit to participate and seek medical advice if unsure.
• Make sure you are hydrated prior to and during the event
• Be aware that you are a pedestrian on public roads and please follow instructions from race officials and marshals.
Wheelchair athletes
We request that all wheelchair athletes in the 5km, 10km and half-marathon events, enter before Friday, 1 July 2011. This is to ensure that event organisers can safely accommodate all wheelchair athletes on the course.
Presentation ceremonies
Will take place at 11am from the main stage at Federation Square.
Trophies will be awarded to the male and female winners of the Brooks half-marathon, 10km run and 5km run events.
Age category winners will receive a medal however these will be posted out after the event.
The age categories are:
U15, U18, 18 - 29 years, 30 - 39 years, 40 - 49 years, 50 - 59 years, 60 - 69 years & 70+.
The walk is a non-competitive event so no place prizes will be awarded.
