The Kids Run is designed for young primary and secondary school students (aged between four and fourteen years old*), who may not be able to complete the 5km distance. It is intended to encourage young people to lead a fit and healthy life, to set goals and to take pride in their achievements.  

The Kids Run is a great way for students to represent their school in a fun, friendly and challenging community fitness event in a non-competitive atmosphere. It also provides an opportunity for them to raise funds for their favourite charity.

Held at 10am on SATURDAY, 14 JULY (the day before the main event), the Kids Run is a 3km off-road untimed run around the banks of the Yarra. It is held on the day prior to Run Melbourne, so that kids can avoid the ‘hustle and bustle’ of the main race day, and participate with just their peers.

While the kids run, parents can visit The Health & Fitness Expo to check out all the latest running gear (with exclusive sales/discounts), to seek advice from trainers, dieticians and athletes, or to mingle with fellow parents and Run Melbourne participants.

All kids will receive a medal for participation, and a showbag of goodies at the finish line. Their names will also be printed in the Run Melbourne Results Liftout in The Age on Tuesday, 17 July 2012.

Assembly area / start location: Alexandra Gardens (Boathouse Drive, Melbourne).
Finish area: Birrarung Marr (the Kids Run will cross the same finish line used for the main race!)

*NOTE: Children aged 4-7years old (on Saturday, July 14, 2012) must be accompanied around the course by a guardian. Guardians do not need to enter the event and participate free of charge.

*Child is classified as 4 to 14 years of age (as of Sunday, 15 July 2012).

Note:  If you wish to have your kids race kits posted to you, you must enter before close of business on Friday, 15 June. Postage of race kits will incur a $5 fee. Those who enter after this time, can collect their race kits from the Health & Fitness Expo from Thursday, 12 July to Saturday, 14 July.
