Runner's World pace teams

When you register to be a part of Run Melbourne on Sunday, 18 July, 2010 you might also like to join in as part of a Runner's World Pace Team.

What's this? The idea is that you run with a group under a leader who will run at a pace calculated to get the team to the finish line at a specific time. Joining a team gives you the chance to run with others who intend to run at your pace, so you are not constantly comparing yourself with runners around you who may be going too fast or too slowly for your desired finish time.

Runners who have tried running with a Pace Team have found it to be a great way to meet their time goals in the company of others of a similar ability. There is no formal arrangement, and you can join the team or leave the team at any time during the race.

The Runner's World Pace Teams will meet in Federation Square before the start and then move to the start line. The Pace Team leaders will carry coloured balloons on the start line and on the course. All Pace Team leaders will be directed to run at an even pace, with a slightly slower pace for the first few kilometres, picking up the pace slightly after this to arrive at the finish line a few seconds ahead of the target time.

At the event there will be pace teams running the following target times in these distances:

Finish time:   1:30 yellow
Finish time:  1:40 aqua blue
