Priests, chefs, athletes (and ordinary Aussies) run for fun and funds!

17,665 runners and walkers took on a 5km, 10km or half-marathon challenge on Sunday, July 18 in Run Melbourne, presented by The Age, while raising more than $1,000,000 for a variety of charities!

"It's great to set such a high hurdle for the participants in Run Melbourne in terms of fundraising for charity and see them clear it" said Terry O'Halloran, Director of Start to Finish.

This $1,000,000 brings Run Melbourne's fundraising total to a staggering $1,817.685 in its short three year history! Moreover, with fundraising continuing until August 18 2010, this figure is set to grow even higher.

Commencing at Federation Square, the event drew people from all walks of life, including family, friends and colleagues who enjoyed a fun, inspiring and memorable morning.

As the course took participants on a journey past some of Melbourne's iconic landmarks, we celeb spotted: Ryan Shelton - one third of Nova's Ryan, Monty and Wippa; Shannon Bennett - renowned chef and owner of Vue de monde ; Father Bob Maguire - the city's most outspoken Parish Priest; Sue Stanley - three-time World Aerobic Champion and health and wellbeing expert; Sam Lane - leading football journalist from The Age and Before The Game; Hughesy - all round comedian and co-host of Nova 100's Hughesy and Kate; Daniel Macpherson - professional triathlete and Channel 7 personality; Kate Smyth - Olympic marathon runner; Robbie Kearns - Melbourne Storm and Garth Tander and Will Davison - Holden V8 Supercar drivers.

Congratulations to Liz Donaldson who won a Ford Fiesta Zetec, thanks to New Oak Ford! Congratulations also to the placegetters below, and to all who participated in the event. Full results will be printed in The Age on Tuesday, July 20 and on the Run Melbourne website at midday on Tuesday, July 20.
